Following two eruptions from Iceland’s Sundhnúkagígar volcano, Pioneer Pump successfully delivered four high-capacity pumps to support ongoing volcanic response efforts within eight weeks after the initial order.

These centrifugal pumps are specifically engineered for extreme environments and are designed for both electric and diesel applications. They feature a self-priming capability and project water to redirect intense lava flows, ensuring that Iceland’s emergency teams are well-equipped to protect the landscape and local communities from future eruptions and fire risks.
In addition to managing lava flows, our pumps are also essential for extinguishing fires ignited by volcanic activity, including forest fires. Our pumps in action
On the 20th November 2024, a new volcanic eruption began in Iceland, prompting our team to mobilise quickly for critical lava cooling efforts.
Within hours, we had the lava cooling system fully prepared, deploying pumps, laying out hoses, and connecting monitors. Once everything was set up, we initiated the cooling process to help manage the lava flow and minimise its impact.
Two of our pumps operating seamlessly, and providing consistent performance under demanding conditions, while two more remain on standby.
